The Vehicles

Featuring hundreds of antique, collector, and special-interest vehicles, The Father’s Day Car Show at Stan Hywet is unlike any other. By focusing on vehicles that are unmodified and largely as they were when they left the factories of their time, the show gives visitors a glimpse through automotive history.

Vehicles are at least 25 years old and either restored to factory stock or incredible survivors. The owners who attend the show are proud ambassadors of the collector car hobby.

Vehicle classes include everything from brass cars of the teens and elegant cars from the roaring twenties to unrestored survivors and stock muscle cars. There are work vehicles like fire trucks and cars from the nifty fifties alongside Mustangs, Jaguars, and more. Each year we host a Special Feature to highlight a group of vehicles celebrating anniversaries or specific marques such as the 50th Anniversary of Mustang, the 70th Anniversary of Thunderbird, The British Invasion, All-Italian Marques, and Air-Cooled Vehicles.

The Owners

Vehicle owners, and the stories they share, are just as much a part of the show as the vehicles on the show field. They are the link between the vehicles on display and the stories of their history.

By making time to visit with spectators, the owners help to create the memorable experiences our show is known for. It is a huge part of what has made The Father’s Day Car Show at Stan Hywet a family tradition since 1957.

The Venue

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens

Stan Hywet is not a person! So what is Stan Hywet? Here is an excerpt from the Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens web site:

In 1910, F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, began to purchase land in Portage Township, a farming area on the west side of the Akron city limits. Seiberling and his wife, Gertrude, wanted to build a home large enough for their growing brood and their extended family. They also wanted the house to function as a center for entertainment and events for the greater Akron community. They named it Stan Hywet, Old English for stone quarry — after the property’s most prominent natural feature. Seiberling hired architect Charles Schneider, landscape designer Warren Manning, and interior decorator Hugo Huber to create Stan Hywet. Construction began in 1912 and the Seiberling family moved to their new house in December, 1915. The Seiberlings enjoyed Stan Hywet Hall for the next 40 years —opening their doors countless times to the community, as well as marking family milestones throughout the estate.

After the death of F.A. Seiberling in 1955, Stan Hywet became a non-profit historic house museum, opening for tours so that the public could benefit from the cultural, educational, and inspirational riches of one of the most significant achievements in architecture and horticulture to come out of America’s Industrial Age.

In 1957, Stan Hywet hosted The Father’s Day Car Show for the first time!

The Volunteers

We’re grateful to the volunteers who make this show happen year after year—they’re the ones who truly make it great.

From parking show cars to managing traffic to judging (yes, we’ll help you become a judge!) there’s a place for everyone, regardless of your car experience. Volunteers of all ages are welcome and we have many grandfathers and fathers who volunteer with their kids! We hope you’ll join us.

The Spectators

Spectator admission provides you with full access to the Father’s Day show field, the special vehicle features, and a self-guided tour of the manor house.

Kids can sign up for the Y outh Judges Concours for the opportunity to get up close to some of the show cars and to meet their owners.

You’ll also find food and beverage vendors, activities for kids, and other special attractions like the elaborate architectural gardens and the Corbin Conservatory. Even if you’re not a car person, there’s something here for everyone. The show changes from year-to-year, so your experience is never the same twice. That’s why vistors return each year.
